North Texas School Districts Guide: How Assignments Work by Address

This guide covers how school district assignment works for addresses in Northlake, Argyle, Justin, Denton and Flower Mound, and links each district’s official boundary and enrollment lookup tools. Assignment is set by the exact address and the district’s current attendance boundaries, which districts can change, so this page is assignment-only: it does not rank schools, districts or neighborhoods, and it uses no demographic comparisons. Official sources were last checked September 2026.

Page content last reviewed and updated September 2026. No rankings, no demographic language, no attendance promises.

How It Works

District and campus assignment is address-specific

In North Texas, the district that serves a home, and the specific campus a child attends, is set by the property’s address and the district’s current attendance boundaries. Districts determine assignment, boundaries can change, and only the district can confirm the schools for an address.

  • The exact address always wins.

A neighborhood, street or subdivision can sit in a different district than a nearby mailing address suggests. Run the property, not the city label, through the official tools below.

  • The district may serve more than one municipality, and one municipality can cross districts.

Properties within Northlake may be served by Northwest ISD, Argyle ISD or Ponder ISD. School assignments depend on the exact address and current attendance boundaries. Verify the assigned schools directly with the applicable district before purchasing.

  • Boundaries and feeder patterns change.

Districts rezone as neighborhoods grow, so an assignment that is true today can change before enrollment. Only the district determines assignment, and this site does not promise attendance now or later.

  • Conduct your own school research.

Decide what matters to your family with primary sources: official district boundary tools, the Texas Education Agency’s accountability information and school report cards, and direct conversations with the district and campuses. This page intentionally avoids rankings and demographic language so you can research without steering.

Verify Before You Buy

Four steps for every shortlisted property

Run these steps for each address on your shortlist, new construction or resale. Districts own the answer, so confirm it in writing where you can.

  1. 1

Run the address through the TEA School District Locator.

This is the official first step for district boundaries by address. (Accessed September 2026.)

  2. 2

Confirm assigned campuses with the district’s own tool.

Use the district’s School Zone Locator, boundary maps or address lookup above, and select the correct school year. (Tools accessed September 2026.)

  3. 3

Ask the district in writing, and ask about planned rezoning.

Ask which campuses serve the address now, whether rezoning is planned, and what enrollment documents apply. Districts rezone as neighborhoods grow, so a written answer is the only one that governs attendance. (Accessed September 2026.)

  4. 4

Re-verify shortly before closing. Boundaries and feeder patterns change, so repeat step 2 a few weeks before closing and plan to research again at enrollment.

Theresa verifies school assignments and taxes as part of her broker research for every address on your shortlist, and she can walk the district verification steps with you live or by video. Book a consultation or call (940) 240-3800.

Common Questions

School-assignment questions, answered.

Which school district serves a specific address in Northlake, Argyle, Justin, Denton or Flower Mound?

Assignment is made by the exact address and the district’s current attendance boundaries, not by the city label on a listing. As a starting point: properties within Northlake may be served by Northwest ISD, Argyle ISD or Ponder ISD; Justin addresses are served primarily by Northwest ISD; Denton addresses by Denton ISD; and most Flower Mound addresses by Lewisville ISD, with some addresses in Argyle ISD or Northwest ISD. Run the address through the official district boundary tool to confirm. Sources accessed September 2026.

Can attendance boundaries change after I buy a home?

Yes. Districts rezone as neighborhoods grow, and district and campus assignments depend on the current attendance boundaries, so they can change. Only the district determines assignment, and a district can decline to confirm future attendance in writing. Verify the assigned schools again shortly before closing and again at enrollment.

Does this page rank schools or districts?

No. This is an assignment-only guide. It does not rank schools, districts or neighborhoods, and it uses no demographic or rating comparisons. The Texas Education Agency publishes official accountability information and school report cards, which you can use as one input in your own research before deciding what fits your family.

Is the school district the same as the mailing address city?

Not necessarily. Postal addresses, city limits and school-district boundaries do not match each other, so an Argyle mailing address or a Northlake address does not by itself establish the district. The exact property and the district’s current boundaries decide the assignment.

Where do I find each district’s official boundary tool?

Northwest ISD publishes the School Zone Locator at nisdtx.org/schoolfinder; Argyle ISD publishes boundary and zone maps at argyleisd.com; Denton ISD publishes attendance zones at dentonisd.org; Lewisville ISD publishes attendance zones at lisd.net; and Ponder ISD and Lake Dallas ISD confirm assignments directly. Every link on this page was accessed September 2026.

What should I ask the district before buying?

Ask, for the exact address: which elementary, middle and high school serve the property, what enrollment documents and registration windows apply, whether bus service is provided, and whether any rezoning is planned or pending. Get the answer in writing where possible, because only the district determines assignment.
